Jack & The Beanstalk Videos

Jack & The Beanstalk - A Canadian Musical in Development (book/music by William Lavigne, Public Workshop Performance December 18, 2018, Temerty Theatre, Toronto)

The show’s synopsis...the English classic fairy tale of Jack and the Beanstalk with a few “twists and turns”.  Jack has a love interest (Gwendolyn, a magician in-training) who is also daughter to Gorvenal the Magician (he trades Jack the magic beans for Bessy the cow).  Serafina is wife to the Unfriendly Ogre who holds Greta the Grouchy Goose and Heather the Hysterical Harp captive.  The Unfriendly Ogre is tormented by rats in the Rat Dream Sequence in Act II (full ensemble dance sequence).  Jack saves the day by using Gwendolyn’s training wand to turn the Unfriendly Ogre into a giant rat….whoops!  He misses and mistakenly turns Serafina into the giant rat, who chases the frightened Unfriendly Ogre away….the show ends with Jack returning to the village (with Greta and Heather now saved) as the full company sings reprises of “Tomorrow is Another Day”  and “A Sprinkling of Some Magic” in the Act II Finale.

A Sprinkling of Some Magic

In Act II of Jack & The Beanstalk, Gorvenal the Magician explains his philosophy on life...a sprinkling of some magic, a bit of kindness too...with an ounce of some beginner's luck...will help to see you through!  With Stephen Bell - Tenor, Tom King - piano

Tomorrow Is Another Day

In Act I of Jack & The Beanstalk, Jack has returned home with only a handful of beans from selling the family's cow.  Luanda (Jack's Mother) is furious with Jack and sends him to bed without supper.  She throws the useless beans into the garden and worries about the future.  But Luanda is a survivor and knows that somehow she will pull through.  She sings a song full of hope for tomorrow.  Alyssa DiMarco as Luanda, Jack's Mother, with Tom King on piano

Let's Be Friends

In Act II of Jack & The Beanstalk, Jack approaches the front door of the Unfriendly Ogre's Castle.  When Serafina, the Unfriendly Ogre's Wife opens the door, she is delighted to see Jack and hopes that they can become good friends (to help alleviate her boredom)...with Marianne Bindig as Serafina, the Unfriendly Ogre's Wife and Tom King on piano

Come and Dance With Me

Mary Tooley - Soprano, Stephen Bell - Tenor with Tom King on piano.  In Act II of Jack & The Beanstalk Gwendolyn is upset that Jack has climbed the beanstalk to look for the Unfriendly Ogre...Gwendolyn asks her father (the magician Gorvenal) to dance with her.  Gorvenal is old and tired and doesn't want to dance...he uses his magic to bring three fir trees to life!  The trees dance with Gwendolyn until the end of the scene...(this video clip ends before the dance sequence begins!)...to be continued on stage in a full production at a future date!

Act II Quartet - Find Me That Boy Named Jack

In Act II of Jack & The Beanstalk, Serafina tries to calm the Unfriendly Ogre, her husband after he finds out from Heather the Hysterical Harp that Jack was hidden in the pantry cupboard and stole two of the Ogre's bags of gold.  Serafina is ready to set out to find Jack, but at the end of the Quartet, Jack shows up at the front door!  With Clarisse Tonigussi as Heather the Hysterical Harp, Adi Braun as Greta the Grouchy Goose, Marianne Bindig as Serafina, the Unfriendly Ogre's Wife and William Lavigne as The Unfriendly Ogre (with Tom King on piano)

Precious Lullaby

In Act II of Jack & The Beanstalk, Heather the Hysterical Harp sings a lullaby to the Unfriendly Ogre to lull him to sleep.  Alyssa DiMarco Soprano, Andrew Chan Harp
